Breathe

A friend of mine has been struggling with a lung disease for several years. This disease restricts air flow making it difficult to breathe. A few months ago prayers were answered when he was asked to participate in a study for a new drug. This drug could possibly help combat his illness, make his lungs stronger and increase the length and quality of his life.

In a recent follow up visit the doctor was encouraged with his progress. My friend was telling me how the drug had changed his taste buds. The foods he loved began to taste terrible. He had to give up something (foods he loves) to get something (life).

The one thing I love about my friend is most of our conversations revolve around the Word. I could not help but see the correlation between my friend’s situation and what happens when one decides to devote their life to Christ.

So many of the things I used to enjoy, I no longer have an appetite for. I had to give up something (the world) to get something (a new life). I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Every day I pray for my friend’s lungs to get stronger. I also thank God because my friend’s Spirit is alive and well, as my friend accepted the breath of life many years ago. This too, has increased the quality of his life and has allowed him to be a blessing to those around him.
