Gone But Not Forgotten
This past Sunday was the first Bible study at the assisted living facility since my friend and attendee Guy passed away (see post 3-9 and 3-29).
Leading up to it left me reminiscing about the first Bible study. I left it up to Guy to get the word out. Upon my arrival I discovered Guy was the only one who showed.
I am not sure whether Guy forgot to tell others or chose not to tell others. Guy liked to keep his company to himself. He apologized for the low attendance but I assured him of Jesus’ promise, “For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.” We went over the Bible lesson and then shot some pool before his dinner. These were two of Guy’s favorite pastimes.
During last Sundays Bible study some of us chose to share stories about Guy. He left quite an impression on all he met. We will miss him and his input at the study, but take comfort knowing he is in a better place and we will all see him again.
Guys favorite Bible Verse was Ephesians 4:1-6. “I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, 3 making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all.”
These were words Guy lived by. As I stated in a prior post he was my kind of Guy. I find myself thinking of him often and when I do I can only smile. He was a great friend, a great man, and a great Christian. He may be gone but he will never be forgotten.
