God or Gold
Jesus tells us “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” We are also warned that the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.
King Solomon was one of the richest Kings who ever lived but unfortunately while amassing his great wealth he lost his relationship with God. As death was approaching, Solomon said, “God has set eternity in the hearts of man.”
Love of money only leaves you wanting more, when the euphoria wears off you are left with a void. The only way to fill the void is a relationship with God.
Life would have been better for Solomon if he would have remembered the words of his father King David. David would say “God’s Word is better than a diamond, better than a diamond set between emeralds. The directions of God are plain and easy on the eyes. God’s reputation is twenty four carat gold with a lifetime guarantee.” Actually, it is an eternal lifetime guarantee.
God doesn’t mind you having money, after all He is the one who gave it to you. What He does mind, is when money takes His place on the top of your priority list. When reading your financial statements becomes more important than reading your Bible. When me time takes the place of God time.
A Pastor friend of mind once told me, “The word God and the word gold are just one letter apart. We could have the letter L remind us of love. God is love and won’t tolerate the love of money. Insert the letter L into God and suddenly we are looking at the word gold.
So the question remains what (or who) do you love? Is it the Golden Rule or the gold that rules your life? What (or who) do you love God or Gold?
