Getting Hammered
Getting hammered can refer to the effects of one going way beyond the point of being a social drinker. As mentioned in prior posts, my mother named me after John the Baptist. John was described as a wild man that dined on honey and locust. In my prior life I was a wild man that dined on chicken wings and Budweiser. Sometimes I would stray past the point of moderation.
Too much of anything is not good because it can quickly take the place of God in our lives. Too much of anything is a sin and as I have found out, sin has a way of nailing us.
As we approach Easter we are reminded we don’t need to be hammered by our sins any longer. Nails didn’t hold Jesus on the cross, our sins did.
I no longer have the urge to over indulge because God’s grace took that sin away. Thank you Jesus for loving me enough to get hammered so now I don’t have to.
