Many years ago I was asked by my teacher to write a book report on The Scarlet Letter. I never enjoyed reading or writing, so I took a shortcut. I purchased cliff notes, read the beginning and the end and skipped everything in between. The shortcut led me into a ditch. When I received the report back it was marked in red. The teacher even went as far as to draw a sad face with tears coming down and “boo-hoo” written next to it. What made matters worse was I was in college at the time. The whole thing had me seeing red. While in prison, a member of our …..

Today is the day we celebrate Palm Sunday. The day people received Jesus as their King. Matthew described the coronation, “A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!”   How quickly things change. Small in stature but large in heart. He always had a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face even …..

The scar on my leg is from falling on a broken bottle. The scar on my back is from my brother pushing me through a window. Looking back I now realize that I should not have punched him first. The list could go on and on. My last scar was when I split my head open on a jagged shelf while in the county jail. Prison left me with a physical and emotional scar. A constant reminder of …..

Last Sunday evening our church hosted a five church Lenten service. Earlier in the week I received an email from our Pastor asking if I would be the Liturgist. Grateful for the opportunity, I emailed back YES followed by, “the joy of the redeemed.” I had been redeemed not only in the eyes of God but also in the eyes of our church family. Even with my past they are not ashamed to call me one of their own. What joy. What redemption. During the service, members of the church put on a drama depicting the crucifixion. It was so realistic one was able to get a small taste of …..
