Preparing a Place
It seems like we talk a lot about preparing this time of the year. Many of you probably spent countless hours in the kitchen preparing a Thanksgiving dinner.
When I was growing up Thanksgiving used to last the entire day. It was a real family day. After dinner we would visit, play cards, nap, get up and eat leftovers. And then do it all over again and again and again.
Unfortunately, the world has decided to change things. The world tells us we should be more thankful for the bargains than our blessing. Now Black Friday has crept into Thanksgiving Thursday. The world barely gives you enough time to digest your turkey before telling you that you need to go out and shop for Christmas or you are going to miss all the great deals.
December 2nd began the season of Advent. During Advent, we prepare for, and anticipate, the coming of Christ. As we prepare may we be reminded of our need of, forgiveness, salvation, and a new beginning.
Sometimes I think we all get caught up in the world’s version of the Christmas season. Let’s not this year. The joy of Christmas isn’t found under a tree but in our hearts.
The best way to be prepared is to keep God 1st in your life and remember the reason for the season. There may have not been any room in the inn for Jesus but let’s make sure there is plenty of room in our hearts.
This Christmas season may we read our Bible’s a little longer, pray a little harder and let our light shine brighter than ever.
