Meat Eaters
When I was younger I was a real meat eater. In fact, I once ate a seven-pound prime rib! Not only was the prime rib delicious but I also got my picture on the wall and a free t-shirt.
I always considered myself a meat eater until I started teaching Bible study at the assisted living facility. They sure love their meat. No, not that kind of meat, most don’t even have the teeth to chew!
I am talking about the meat the Apostle Paul was referring to when he was addressing the church in Corinth. Paul referred God’s Word as meat. The word “meat” comes from the Greek word Broma and means the more solid, complete and deeper spiritual doctrines of the Gospel.
One of the attendees had read the Bible four times, another had read it eleven. That is quite an appetite. Last Sunday morning I received a call from one of the attendees. She was working on her homework and wanted to make sure she was on the correct chapter. I told her it was Luke chapter 8 and that I was looking forward to seeing them later that afternoon.
What dedication! I have learned so much about being a Christian from those in the group. I can’t wait until the next time we meet. I look forward to another opportunity to break bread, drink wine and eat some more meat.
