How Quickly Things Change
Today is the day we celebrate Palm Sunday. The day people received Jesus as their King. Matthew described the coronation, “A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,
“Hosanna to the Son of David!”
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”
“Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
How quickly things change. By Friday the crowd honored their King with a crown of thorns. The crowd would pardon a murderer instead of the one who would pardon us from our sins. The coronation turned into a crucifixion. How quickly things change.
Did they forget all Jesus had done? What about healing the blind so they could see and the deaf so they could hear? Did they forget how the crippled were made to walk and the lepers were made clean? What about casting out the demons? How quickly things change, how soon people forget.
Even His disciples deserted Him. Peter promised he would die for Him. Hours later he denied Him. How quickly things change
When I told my wife Julie what I had done one of the first things she told me was that all the good I had done for others would be wiped away. How true. How quickly things change.
But I am fortunate because God makes all things new. Good Friday reminds us we are free from the bondage of sin and death. The devil thought he had won. That Christ’s death on the cross was the end. But Jesus would take the keys from Hell rise from the grave and free us all from sin. How quickly things change.
